W Soccer to Raise Funds & Breast Cancer Awareness – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Ohio State women’s soccer team will do its part to help generate awareness and raise funds to benefit those women and their families who are currently affected by the disease.
Members of the team will wear pink jersey tops during warm-ups prior to their 3 p.m. game Sunday (Oct. 5) against Northwestern at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. They will wear the jerseys prior to home games against Iowa (Oct. 17) and Minnesota (Oct. 19) as well.
The game against Northwestern will also feature a stadium entrance give-away of 750 pink bracelets plus a give-away of 500 pink balloons. The balloons will all be released at once prior to the start of the game.
Between now and next spring, members of the soccer team will also be selling pink “awareness” t-shirts with all funds raised benefiting the Claudia Mayer Foundation, which supports women and their families currently battling breast cancer and provides pre-screening opportunities to women who cannot afford preventative care.
The soccer team will present a check from the sale of the t-shirts more info on how to purchase a t-shirt is forthcoming to the Claudia Mayer Foundation next spring when it plays in the Kicks Against Breast Cancer Tournament in Germantown, Md. In 2004, the soccer team raised $13,000 for the KABC Tournament, of which $5,000 was donated to The James for local pre-screening for women.
