Men’s Basketball: Buckeyes Out Run Iowa, 79-48 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – David Lighty and Othello Hunter each scored 14 points to lead Ohio State past Iowa, 79-48, Wednesday in Value City Arena. The Buckeyes now are 3-0 in the Big Ten and have won eight in a row for a 12-3 overall mark. Iowa dropped to 7-9, 0-3 in league play.
After Iowa closed within four at 18-14 at the 10:54 mark, the Buckeyes busted open the game with a 32-3 run through the first half and early into the second. From their, the Buckeyes cruised to victory.
“Our defense got us going tonight,” Lighty said. “We pressured the ball really well and got lots of steals. It was a fun game to play in tonight because everybody got involved. It was good for me personally because I finally started making lay-ups. It got my confidence going.”
Senior point guard Jamar Butler narrowly missed double digits in assists with nine. He has 38 helpers in his last four games. Butler added eight points. Eric Wallace came off the Buckeye bench to net 10 points and grab eight rebounds.
Butler had been fighting off a case of the flu the last couple days.
“It was good to play only 21 minutes tonight,” Butler said. “I’m pretty sick right now. I could have gone 40 minutes if I needed to. Our training staff did a great job to get me ready to play.”
Tony Freeman was the leading scorer for Iowa with 21points, but Iowa shot just 34 percent (19-56) from the field. The Buckeyes converted 52 percent of their tries, making 33-63.
The Buckeyes are 3-0 in the Big Ten for the first time since winning their first seven conference games in 1991.
