COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State synchronized swimming team swept the solo, duet and trio competitions Saturday to win the OSU Tri-Meet vs. Keuka College and the University of Michigan at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The Buckeyes took first with a total of 96 points, outscoring their nearest opponent, Keuka, by 26 points.
Ohio State claimed the top two spots in the solo competition. Sophomore Barbara Nesbitt, a native of Riverside, Calif., took first with 89.833 points. Freshman and North Hills, Calif., native Michelle Theriault came up close behind with 86.833 points.
The Buckeyes also took first in both the duet and trio events. The combination of Caitlin Stewart, who hails from Huntington Beach, Calif., and Theriault topped the duet competition with a score of 92.000. Just shy of Stewart and Theriault were teammates Hannah Shively, from Westerville, Ohio, and Leah Pinette, a Bristol, Conn., native, with a mark of 91.000. Performing an exhibition routine were Buckeyes Michelle Benzie (El Cajon, Calif.) and Jayme DeLancy (Hamden, Conn.). While their score of 89.333 did not count towards the team competition, it was good enough to place them third among all of the duets.
In trio competition Nesbitt, Stewart and Theriault claimed the best routine of the afternoon with 93.167 points, while teammates Carmen Moraes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Deborah Shim (Walnut Creek, Calif.), and Pinette took second with a score of 91.667.
The Buckeyes will host the second annual Jessica Beck Memorial Meet at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion at 2 p.m. Feb. 2.
