Ron Lewis turned in the Pontiac Game Changing Performance against Xavier last basketball season and as a result Ohio State will receive $100,000 for the university general scholarship fund. Lewis graduated last spring the day after making that game-tying shot with five seconds left in regulation against the Musketeers in the second round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament that helped propel the Buckeyes to the national title game and a school record 35-4 record a season ago.
College basketball fans from across the country voted Lewis’ shot the Pontiac Game Changing Performance of the Tournament.
Ron Meier, Pontiac Zone Manager for South Ohio and Chris Haydocy of Haydocy Buick Pontiac GMC presented the check in an on-field ceremony Saturday to Thad Matta, head coach of the Buckeyes and Mike Conley Jr., the No. 4 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies.
After Lewis sent the Buckeyes to overtime against the Musketeers, Conley, who set the screen to free Lewis for the dramatic shot, scored 11 points in the extra session to lead the Buckeyes to a thrilling 78-71 victory in Lexington, Ky.
