Head coach Thad Matta welcomed about 100 former Ohio State men’s basketball alumni, managers and staff Friday at an annual dinner recognizing those who have built the Buckeye program over the years.
The event, now in its fourth year, draws former Buckeyes from across the country. It was attended this year by Gordon Gee, who will become the Ohio State University President Oct. 1. Gee addressed the gathering following dinner and spent about two hours getting to know the former players and current coaching staff.
Two former teams were recognized at the dinner, the 1982 squad, which celebrated its 25-year anniversary, and the 1992 team, 15 years out from last playing in the scarlet and gray.
Ron Stokes and Troy Taylor, starting guards on the 1982 team, led the Buckeyes to a 21-10 record, a second place finish in the Big Ten and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The 1992 squad, paced by Jimmy Jackson, finished 26-6 winning the Big Ten title (15-3). The squad went on to the NCAA regional finals that year.
