Lara Dickenmann Named to Preseason All-America Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State senior midfielder Lara Dickenmann has been named one of 11 preseason All-Americans by MajorLeagueSoccer Magazine, a new soccer publication that debuted in July. The magazine’s second issue, which includes men’s and women’s preseason All-America lists and a national Top 10 ranking of teams, hits newsstands in mid-September.
“Lara being named a preseason All-American reinforces what I have been saying about her,” coach Lori Walker said, “and that is she is arguably the most well rounded soccer player in the college game with a knack for scoring goals and the vision to place an assist.”
Dickenmann, an All-American in 2004 after a terrific freshman campaign, ranks among Ohio State’s all-time top five in career assists (3rd with 21) and career points (3rd with 73). She is tied for seventh with 23 career goals. In 2004, she helped the Buckeyes to their finest season ever 19-4-1 and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance by setting team single season records for goals (13), assists (12) and points (38).
This is the second major preseason honor for Dickenmann. The senior co-captain for the Buckeyes was earlier named to the preseason watch list for the Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The Hermann Trophy list, announced by the Missouri Athletic Club, was compiled by a panel of coaches from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She is the first student-athlete from the women’s program to be named to the Hermann Trophy watch list.
Dickenmann, from Kriens, Switzerland, and the Buckeyes open their regular season Friday (Aug. 31) at noon with a match against Butler University at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
