COLUMBUS, Ohio – Brittany Johnson, who signed a national letter of intent with Ohio State in November, was named Illinois girl’s player of the year. The 5-11 guard from Olney High School in Olney, Ill., set the Illinois state high school record by scoring 4,031 career points. She is the record holder for both boy’s and girl’s basketball.
Johnson joined fellow future Buckeye Jantel Lavender as state players of the year. Lavender was named Ms. Ohio in mid March.
This season, Johnson averaged 36.4 points to score 1,202 in her senior campaign. That mark serves as another Illinois record. She fronted Olney to a 30-3 season and unbeaten conference record. Her 52 points against Salem High School on Jan. 25 also stands as the school record.
