Two Rowing Buckeyes Named to All-Big Ten Teams – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two members of the Ohio State rowing team were named to All-Big Ten teams, the conference announced Saturday following the Big Ten championships at Lake Wingra in Madison, Wis. Gabriele Albertaviciute was named to the first team while Jessica Shepherd received second team honors.
Both Albertaviciute and Shepherd row in the Ohio State first varsity eight boat, currently ranked No. 3 in the nation. The crew concluded the regular season with a mark of 7-1, including upsets over former No. 1 Princeton and No. 2 Virginia, and was named Big Ten Boat of the Week twice.
For Albertaviciute, a junior from Vilnius, Lithuania, it was her second All-Big Ten award after earning second team honors in 2006. This is her second season rowing in the first varsity eight crew, which has been ranked in the Top 7 nationally throughout 2006 and 2007. Albertaviciute has rowed in the fifth seat this season.
Shepherd, a senior co-captain from Richmond, Ohio, picked up her second All-Big Ten honor, also making the second team in 2006. She was named to Second Team All-Central Region last year as well. Shepherd has rowed in the first varsity eight crew throughout the last three seasons, sitting in the sixth seat this year. She has helped Ohio State earn four Big Ten Boat of the Week honors during her four seasons.
Fellow senior co-captain Justine Mahler, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. She also rowed in the nationally-ranked first varsity eight crew throughout the last two seasons. She primarily rowed in the bow and second seats this year.
Since 2000, Ohio State has garnered 16 First Team and 15 Second Team All-Big Ten honors.
