COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team will showcase six routines at the 2007 U.S. National Championships Thursday-Saturday at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
The Buckeyes will enter two routines in the solo, duet and team competitions.

LAST TIME OUT – 2007 U.S. COLLEGIATE NATIONALS
Tallying a total of 84 points, Ohio State finished second at the 2007 U.S. Collegiate National Championships, hosted by Wheaton College, at Balfour Natatorium in Norton, Mass., March 24. Stanford was crowned the national champion with 97 points, while Incarnate Word was third with 68 points and Alabama rounded out the Top 4 with 61 points.
The Buckeyes finished second in three of the four finals events. In the solo competition, runner-up Barbara Nesbitt scored an even 96.000. The combination of Nesbitt, Leah Pinette and Hannah Shively notched a 95.167 with teammates Ellen Hacker, Carmen Moraes and Caitlin Stewart not far behind in third place with a score of 93.667.
The Scarlet team recorded a season-best 98.167 for second. Coming in sixth place, the Gray squad tallied a score of 93.833.
The tandem of Hacker and Stewart executed a third-place effort in the duet with 94.167 points.
A TRIP BACK IN TIME
The Buckeyes concluded the 2006 season with a fourth-place performance at the U.S. National championships at the Fort Lauderdale Complex in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., April 27-29. The Scarlet and Gray finished with 18 points, while Santa Clara won the event with 52 points. Stanford was second (32) and Walnut Creek (22) rounded out the Top 3.
Four OSU routines advanced to the finals. Becky Kim represented Ohio State in the solo event and finished fifth with a 92.751. The duo of Carly Grimshaw and Chelsea Luker earned an eighth-place 90.668. Both the OSU `A’ team and the Buckeye `B’ team qualified for the team final with the `A’ squad notching a 94.668, which was good for third place and the `B’ team compiling a seventh-place 91.917.
TEAM BESTS
Ohio State set 2007 team bests in all four routines at the U.S. Collegiate National championships finals. The Scarlet squad recorded a 98.167 to better its mark of 96.667 set at William & Mary Feb. 11. The trio of Leah Pinette, Barbara Nesbitt and Hannah Shively scored a 95.167 to claim the 2007 high from Ellen Hacker, Carmen Moraes and Caitlin Stewart, which notched the previous team best of 93.500 at the Jessica Beck Memorial Meet Feb. 3. Hacker, Moraes and Stewart recorded a personal best of 93.667 at the U.S. Collegiate nationals. In the duet competition, Hacker and Stewart compiled a 94.167 to top its previous best of 91.833 tallied at the Jessica Beck Memorial Meet. Nesbitt’s team best of 95.000 in the solo, also recorded at the Jessica Beck Memorial Meet, was topped with a score of 96.000.
SECOND TO NONE
The duo of Ellen Hacker and Caitlin Stewart finished first in the duet each of the six times they competed during the regular season. Soloist Barbara Nesbitt won with her routine five of six times, while the OSU trio of Hacker, Carmen Moraes and Stewart were victorious five of six times this season as well.
RACE FOR BEIJING 2008
At the conclusion of the 2007 U.S. National Championships, United States Synchronized Swimming will announce its 2008 Olympic Team. Current Buckeye Becky Kim, who is redshirting her senior season, is a member of the U.S. World Team and will seek a spot on the Olympic team roster. Former Buckeye Kate Hooven also will look to be added to the squad. Two swimmers, Andrea Nott and Christina Jones (Santa Clara Aquamaids) already were named to the Olympic Team in December. The USSS will become the first U.S. National Governing Body to announce its 2008 Olympic Team.
NATIONALLY SPEAKING
Buckeye Becky Kim, who is redshirting her senior year to compete for the U.S. Senior National and World teams, helped the squad to a bronze medal at the 2007 FINA World Aquatic Championships held in Melbourne, Australia, March 17-24.
Former OSU synchronized swimmer Kate Hooven (2005) also is a member of the U.S. roster.
PHASING IN
Three members of the OSU squad will also compete in the 2007 Team Trials Phase IV competition during the U.S. National championships in hopes of earning a roster spot on the 2007 Team II squad. In addition to their duties with the Buckeyes, Erin DeMarco, Leah Pinette and Hannah Shively will seek to represent the U.S. in international events.
