COLUMBUS, Ohio – Members of the Ohio State University student body held a pep rally at St. John Arena Tuesday for the Big Ten champion men’s and women’s basketball teams. Fans participated in several contests, including a 3-point shootout with members of both teams and a slam dunk competition.
Before the two championship squads were introduced, former Buckeye greats Ron Stokes and Katie Smith addressed the crowd. Stokes is a former two-time captain for the Buckeyes and Smith was a two-time All-American for Ohio State.
Thad Matta, men’s basketball head coach, closed the event with a speech to thank Ohio State fans for the season-long support.
The men’s team heads to the Big Ten tournament this weekend in Chicago. The top-seeded Buckeyes will play at noon Friday against the winner of the Michigan/Minnesota first-round contest scheduled for noon Thursday. The women’s team is off this week and awaits the announcement of the NCAA bracket Monday.
