Synchronized Swimming Concludes 2007 U.S. Collegiate Nationals with a Second-Place Finish – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Tallying a total of 84 points, the Ohio State synchronized swimming team finished second Saturday at the 2007 U.S. Collegiate National Championships, hosted by Wheaton College, at Balfour Natatorium in Norton, Mass. Stanford was crowned the national champion with 97 points, while Incarnate Word was third with 68 points and Alabama rounded out the Top 4 with 61 points.
The Buckeyes finished second in three of the four finals events. In the solo competition, runner-up Barbara Nesbitt (Riverside, Calif.) scored an even 96.000. The combination of Nesbitt, Leah Pinette (Bristol, Conn.) and Hannah Shively (Westerville, Ohio) notched a 95.167 with classmates Ellen Hacker (Newark, Ohio), Carmen Moraes (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) and Caitlin Stewart (Huntington Beach, Calif.) not far behind in third place with a score of 93.667.
The Scarlet team of Michelle Benzie (El Cajon, Calif.), Jayme DeLancy (Hamden, Conn.), Hacker, Moraes, Nesbitt, Pinette, Shively and Stewart recorded a season-best 98.167 for second. Coming in sixth-place, the Gray squad comprised of Kaitlin Bolt (Cincinnati, Ohio), Julia Broadfoot (El Cajon, Calif.), Diana Care (Las Vegas, Nev.), Erin DeMarco (Coral Springs, Fla.), Liz Derr (St. Paul, Minn.), Rita Gillan (Andover, Mass.), Jackie Mundy (Corona, Calif.), Brooke Paul (Columbus, Ohio), Emilie Siemer (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kendra Sollars (Scottsdale, Ariz.) tallied a score of 93.833.
The tandem of Hacker and Stewart executed a third-place effort in the duet with 94.167 points.
The Scarlet and Gray will next perform their routines at the 2007 U.S. Senior National Championships April 26-28 in Indianapolis.
