SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Ohio State men’s basketball team (33-3) takes on No. 5 Memphis (33-3) at 3:40 p.m. CT Saturday in the 2007 NCAA South Regional Finals in San Antonio, Texas. The teams have combined winning streaks of 45 games. Ohio State has won its last 20 games while the Tigers have not lost in 25 outings.
Both teams participated in closed practices at the Alamodome Friday in addition to handling nearly two hours of media obligations. The teams each will practice for about an hour early Saturday putting the finishing touches on their respective Elite 8 game plans. The winner will advance to the 2007 Final Four in Atlanta March 31-April 2.
Ohio State is looking for the program’s ninth Final Four appearances in school history. The Buckeyes have participated in 10 previous regional final games with a record of 5-5 in those contests. The Buckeyes last participated in a Regional Final in 1992, a 75-71 loss to Michigan in the Southeast Regional.
The Buckeyes will be playing in their fifth game this season involving Top 5 teams. Ohio State is 2-2 in the four previous games. No. 3 Ohio State lost to No. 5 Florida Dec. 23 (86-60), No. 3 Wisconsin defeated No. 5 Ohio State Jan. 9 (72-69), No. 2 Ohio State defeated No. 1 Wisconsin Feb. 25 and No. 1 Ohio State beat No. 3 Wisconsin March 11 (66-49). The Buckeyes, No. 1 in the last Associated Press poll of the season while Memphis finished No. 5.
