Ohio State Football Award Winners
Outstanding play against Purdue recognized
COLUMBUS, Ohio The OhioState football coaching staff has selected its weekly award winners for outstanding play in the 23-7 Big Ten win at No. 20 Purdue Saturday night.
Offensive tackle Alex Boone was selected as offensive player of the week, and cornerback Chimdi Chekwa earned the Buckeyes’ defensive player of the week award; Chekwa was also the Big Ten defensive player of the week. Shaun Lane was recognized as the special units player of the week.
Scout team champions were: Offense: Scott Sika; Defense: Tom Ingham; Special Units: Donnie Evege. The “Attack Force” award went to linebacker Marcus Freeman. Kirk Barton won the Jim Parker lineman award; the Jack Tatum Hit of the Week will be selected from among five contenders by team vote at Tuesday’s meeting.
No. 3 Ohio State (6-0) hosts KentState (3-3) Saturday at noon at Ohio Stadium for a game that will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
