Ohio State Student-Athletes Working Together with the Sportsmanship Council – Ohio State Buckeyes

It is football Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, and all around the ‘Shoe’ fans from all walks of life join together in the spirit of competition. And for the Ohio State Sportsmanship Council it is prime time to reach Buckeye and visiting fans, spreading the word of good sportsmanship.
In addition to the council, Ohio State student-athletes are getting involved in the effort to encourage pride in one’s university and respect for its visitors.
“We are here to welcome Kent State fans and say hello to Ohio State fans,” Matt Van Jura, sportsmanship council president, said.
Meeting before the Kent State game, student-athletes from the men’s and women’s lacrosse and women’s soccer teams collected handfuls of pins and Bob Evans reward cards to hand out and spread goodwill among all those tailgating and attending the game.
“It’s important for us as student-athletes to get more involved with the Sportsmanship Council because our two groups can help each other out,” Amy Graeff, junior on the women’s soccer team, said. “Together we can work to make sure Ohio State fans are the best.”
Each home game, ambassadors of The Ohio State University greet the multitudes of people with a welcoming smile and token of appreciation.
“We go to one of the greatest schools in the country and this program represents the great pride and tradition of athletics,” Maggie Sweeny, director of the Sportsmanship Council’s welcoming committee, said. “We want everyone who visits Ohio State to have the best experience possible.”
