Ohio State Student-Athletes Earn Degrees at Spring Commencement – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – At spring commencement ceremonies Sunday in Ohio Stadium, 108 current or former Buckeye student-athletes received degrees from The Ohio State University.
Among the honorees were standouts Troy Smith, Ashton Youboty, Bobby Carpenter, Lisa Grubb, Dennis Hopson, Brian Olinger, Rosalind Goodwin, Scott Green, Diana Albrecht, Beth Tompkins, Jason Rogers, Hanna Thompson and Metta Thompson.
Smith earned a bachelor’s degree at commencement and returns to quarterback the football Buckeyes this fall after leading the Big Ten in passing efficiency last season. Youboty was a first-team All-Big Ten pick last season and joined Carpenter as a NFL draft pick in April.
Grubb, who was recently named a 2006 team co-captain, is returning to Ohio State as the Buckeyes’ all-time leading scorer with 31 goals.
Hopson, who played for OSU from 1984-87, is the all-time leading scorer in men’s basketball at Ohio State with 2,096 points. He scored a single-season record 958 points as a senior in 1987 for an average of 29.0 points a game.
Olinger is a five-time All-American in men’s cross country and men’s indoor and outdoor track and Goodwin is a three-time All-American and six-time Big Ten champion in long and triple jump events.
Green of the men’s tennis team ranks second all-time at Ohio State with 117 career doubles victories. He is a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American in doubles.
Albrecht was a two-time All-American, three-time All-Big Ten and three-time All-Central Region for rowing. Tompkins, also was an All-Big Ten selection, earned second-team All-Central Region honors and was a CRCA National Scholar Athlete.
Rogers, a member of the fencing team, was a three-time Academic All-American and placed third at the NCAA national championships giving him All-America honors. Twin sister fencers, Hanna and Metta Thompson each were All-Americans. Hanna was a first-team All-American for two years and earned second-team honors for two years, while Metta earned second-team honors for three years and honorable mention one year.
