COLUMBUS, Ohio – Douglas Archie has been hired as the associate athletics director for compliance and camps at Ohio State, Gene Smith, director of athletics, announced Monday. Archie most recently was the associate athletics director of compliance at the University of Utah and previously worked seven years for the NCAA.
“Any opportunity to become a member of a program with the tradition and accolades of Ohio State and the Big Ten Conference is very exciting,” Archie said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to join this family. This is an excellent time to be a Buckeye. Professionally, joining the compliance team at Ohio State is a wonderful opportunity. There are big shoes to fill, but I am confident and look forward to the challenge.”
After seven years of working for the NCAA in enforcement services and as a membership services representative, Archie went to Utah as the director of compliance where he implemented a comprehensive Division I-A compliance education and monitoring program for student-athletes, coaches, administrators and faculty. Prior to his work with the NCAA, he was the assistant athletics director for compliance at the University of North Dakota.
“We are excited to add someone of Doug’s caliber with both his NCAA and campus experiences to the Ohio State family,” Miechelle Willis, senior women’s administrator and head of the search committee, said. “This is a great opportunity for continuity in the direction of the athletic department’s strong commitment to compliance.”
Archie received his bachelor’s degree in economics from York University in Toronto in 1989. He then went on to earn his master of science in physical education with a concentration in athletics administration from Ohio University in 1990 and his Juris Doctor from University of Toledo College of Law in 1993.
While at York University, Archie was a member of the 1988 Canadian University National Hockey Championship team. York also won four Ontario University Hockey titles during his career.
Archie and his wife, Beth, are expecting their second child this month.
