COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two Ohio State rowers were named 2006 CRCA Pocock All-Americans, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced Wednesday. Senior Ninett Kossowsky, the Big Ten Rowing Athlete of the Year, was selected to the first team while junior Annabelle Fago earned a second team nod. Ohio State was the only Big Ten school with two rowers selected to the teams, with a five other conference schools receiving recognitions.
It is the first All-American honor for Kossowsky, a native of Leipzig, Germany, who was also named First Team All-Central Region as well as First Team All-Big Ten this season. For Fago, a native of Giessen, Germany, it is her third-consecutive Second Team All-America selection. She also earned First Team All-Central Region and First Team All-Big Ten honors this season.
Kossowsky and Fago were both members of Ohio State’s nationally-ranked first varsity eight this year. The boat finished fifth in the Grand Final last weekend at the NCAA championships, helping the Buckeyes to their highest point total ever at the event and a fifth-place team finish. This season, the Buckeyes also won the Big Ten championships as well as their fourth-consecutive Central Region championship, with the first varsity eight finishing first and second in the respective Grand Finals.
