Rowing Receives NCAA Championship Selection – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The fourth-ranked Ohio State rowing team has been chosen to participate in the 2006 NCAA Championships the selection committee announced Tuesday. The event will take place May 26-28 with the Princeton National Rowing Association and Rutgers University playing host at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
The Buckeyes will be making their seventh-consecutive appearance at the NCAA championships. OSU placed fourth in the team standings at the event last year, tying the best finish in program history. Ohio State finished eighth in 2004 and 2003, fifth in 2002, fourth in 2001 and ninth in 2000.
Ohio State won its fourth-consecutive Central Region championship Sunday, with two Grand Final victories and two second-place finishes in the Grand Finals. The Buckeyes also won the 2006 Big Ten Championships to become the first school to win the Big Ten and Central Region since Michigan in 2001.
Fellow conference teams Michigan State and Wisconsin also were selected. Minnesota received an at-large bid for its first varsity eight boat. Along with those three boats, the Buckeyes have raced six other selections this season: California, Notre Dame, Stanford, Tennessee, Washington and USC.
The NCAA team championship is comprised of 12 teams, with each team consisting of first and second varsity eight and first varsity four boats. Four boats are at-large selections for the varsity eight competition.
