Synchronized Swimming Finishes Second at Collegiate Nationals – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team finished second at the 2006 Collegiate National Championships Saturday. Stanford, who edged the Buckeyes by four points to win, finished with 96 points, while the Buckeyes scored 92. The event was held at the Avery Aquatic Center in Stanford, Calif.
OSU junior Becky Kim (Walnut Creek, Calif./Walnut Creek Aquanuts) finished second behind Stanford’s Sara Lowe in the solo event. Kim, Ohio State’s only representative in the event, recorded a score of 94.333.
The duet of Carly Grimshaw (Sr., Markham, Ontario/Synchro Optima) and Chelsea Luker (Sr., Montreal, Quebec/Montreal Synchro) also earned second with a score of 94.167, behind first-place Stanford’s routine that earned a 95.833.
Ellen Hacker (Jr., Newark, Ohio/Newark), Kim and Carmen Moraes (Fr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Tenis Club) joined forces to finish first in the trio event, recording a score of 93.667. Teammates Grimshaw, Luker and Ashley Rule (Jr., San Jose, Calif./Santa Clara Aquamaids) placed fourth with a score of 92.500.
The two Buckeye groups that participated in the team event finished second and third, respectively, again behind the Cardinal. The `A’ team recorded a score of 96.333 while the `B’ team finished with a 94.667.
Ohio State will wrap up the season with a trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for the 2006 U.S. Senior National Championships. The event is slated for April 27-29.
