No. 4 Rowing Completes First Day of Windermere Classic – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The fourth-ranked Ohio State rowing team opened its 2006 season with varsity eight duals against No. 2 California and No. 10 Washington Saturday at the Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic in Redwood City, Calif. The first varsity eight split their races, defeating Washington in the afternoon after falling to Cal in the morning. The second varsity eight was defeated in both of their duals.
The first varsity eight of Simone Haubner (So., Leipzig, Germany), Susanne Herbrand (Fr., Magdeburg, Germany), Ninett Kossowsky (Sr., Leipzig, Germany), Beth Tompkins (Sr., Westerville, Ohio), Gabrielle Albertaviciute (So., Vilnius, Lithuania), Jess Shepherd (Jr., Richmond, Ohio), Annabelle Fago (Jr., Giessen, Germany), Charlott Goldstein (Fr., Berlin, Germany) and coxswain Sarah Obee (Sr., Toledo, Ohio) opened the racing for the Buckeyes and clocked in at 7:18.63. The Bears won the race with a time of 7:12.43.
The first varsity eight rebounded in their second race with a time of 6:50.88 to defeat Washington, which finished with a time of 6:52.04.
The second varsity eight of Lavinia Tinelli (Fr., Rome, Italy), Andrea Dymalski (So., Bremen, Germany), Olya Grigorieva (Sr., Moscow, Russia), Peta-Leigh Dakyns (Johannesburg, South Africa), Justine Mahler (Jr., Cincinnati, Ohio), Zuzanna Trzcinska (Fr., Ilawa, Poland), Katie Poling (Sr., Elyria, Ohio), Briony Clare (Jr., Sydney, Australia) and coxswain Colleen Saville (Fr., Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was also defeated by Cal. Ohio State finished with a time of 7:58.90 to the Bears’ 7:55.00. The Buckeyes also fell to Washington in the afternoon dual. Ohio State’s first and second varsity eight will conclude the Windermere Classic Sunday with dual races against host school No. 15 Stanford.
