COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team will compete in its first dual meet of the season when it travels to Richmond, Va., to face Richmond at 3 p.m. Saturday at Robins Center Pool.
The Buckeyes (9-0) jump right back into competition Sunday, taking on William & Mary at 1 p.m. at the Adair Pool in Williamsburg, Va.
400-CLUB
Buckeye head coach Linda Lichter-Witter collected her 400th win at the OSU College Association Meet Feb. 4.
After guiding OSU to a first-place finish out of five teams, Witter improved her Ohio State and career record to 402-7. Witter entered her 11th season as the OSU coach with a 393-7 record.
Heading into their fourth meet of the season, the Buckeyes already have finished first at the Ohio State Tri-Meet, Ohio Invitational and the OSU College Association Meet.
DOUBLING UP
The Buckeyes have defeated their nearest competitor by double-digits in each of the last three meets.
At the OSU Tri-Meet, Ohio State scored a season-best 96 points to outdistance second place finisher Keuka College (74) by 22 points.
Although the 92 points compiled at the OSU College Association Meet is its lowest point total of the season, OSU still outpaced William & Mary by 21 points.
With their 93 points at the Ohio Invitational, the Buckeyes defeated the Ohio University Synchro team by 14.25 points (93.0-78.750). TOP THIS
With their score of 91.167 at the OSU College Association Meet, the trio of Carly Grimshaw, Chelsea Luker and Ashley Rule won their first trio routine this season.
The group’s 91.167 points was a season best, topping their previous high of 90.167 recorded at the OSU Tri-Meet.
JUST A LITTLE PREVIEW
Freshman Jayme DeLancy and sophomores Michelle Benzie and Julia Broadfoot performed in their first trio routine of the season at the OSU College Association Meet and finished second with a mark of 86.333 behind teammates Carly Grimshaw, Chelsea Luker and Ashley Rule.
UP AND UP
Freshman Carmen Moraes recorded a season-best 91.500 in the solo routine at the OSU College Association Meet. Moraes bettered her mark of 86.667 compiled at the OSU Tri-Meet Jan. 21.
DYNAMIC DUOS
The duo of Carly Grimshaw and Chelsea Luker won their third-consecutive duet routine at the OSU College Association Meet with a season high of 94.500. Their previous high was 92.667.
In second place was Carmen Moraes and Ellen Hacker, who recorded a season-best 93.000 to better their mark of 90.667 notched at the Ohio Invitational.
LAST TIME OUT – OSU COLLEGE ASSOCIATION MEET
Head coach Linda Lichter-Witter claimed her 400th OSU and career victory, as the Buckeye synchronized swimming team recorded 92 points to finish first at the OSU College Association Meet Feb. 4 at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. Lichter-Witter now is 402-7 after Ohio State swept all three routines and the team event for the third-consecutive meet, defeating William & Mary (71), Walsh (52), Miami (44) and Ohio (33).
The trio of Chelsea Luker, Carly Grimshaw and Ashley Rule notched a 91.167 to finish first.
Luker and Grimshaw scored a season-best 94.500 to win their third-consecutive duet competition.
Moraes was the lone soloist for Ohio State and the freshman finished first with a score of 91.500, which tops her earlier season-best of 86.667, notched at the OSU Tri-Meet Jan. 21.
In the team event, the Buckeye `A’ team posted a 95.167 to help OSU complete the sweep. The OSU `B’ team finished second with a mark of 92.167.
HAVE WE MET BEFORE?
When the Buckeyes face William & Mary Sunday, it will be the second time this season, the two teams have met. Ohio State competed against the Tribe at the OSU College Association Meet Feb. 4 at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. OSU finished first with 92 points and William & Mary was second with 71 points.
PLAN A AND PLAN B
The Ohio State `A’ team and the Buckeye `B’ team executed the Top 2 routines at the OSU College Association Meet, recording a 95.167 and 92.167, respectively.
The nearest competitor, in third place, was outdistanced by more than eight points.
RICHMOND – 2005
The Buckeyes picked up a 76-64 win over Richmond Feb. 12 in Richmond, Va.
Carly Grimshaw and Chelsea Luker helped the Buckeyes capture three wins in duet, trio and team competition. Grimshaw and Luker paired to take first place in duet with a score of 92.167. Former Buckeye Lauren Marsh, Grimshaw and Luker claimed first-place honors in trio with a mark of 91.667. Becky Kim and former swimmer Lindsay Newbill finished second in duet with a score of 89.167, while Kim, Newbill and Ellen Hacker placed second in the trio event.
The OSU squad also took home first-place honors in the team event. Swimming for the Buckeyes was Heather Burdick, Grimshaw, Hacker, Kim, Luker, Marsh, Newbill and Ashley Rule.
WILLIAM & MARY – 2005
Ohio State defeated William & Mary Feb. 13 in Williamsburg, Va.
Carly Grimshaw claimed first-place honors in figures for the Buckeyes, recording a 83.338. Teammate Lindsay Newbill finished second with a mark of 82.253 and sophomore Becky Kim placed third with a score of 81.797. Kim also took first in the solo event with a score of 90.500.
Grimshaw and junior Chelsea Luker took first place in duet with a score of 88.833, while Kim and Newbill placed second in the event with a mark of 83.333.
Grimshaw and Luker teamed up with former Buckeye Lauren Marsh to capture first-place honors in the trio event with a score of 89.500 and Kim, Newbill and Heather Burdick finished second with a mark of 86.333.
The Buckeyes also placed first in the team event with a score of 93.333.
OH SO CLOSE
Ohio State’s team score of 96 at the OSU Tri-Meet was just 1.8 points shy of its season best from one year ago. In 2005, the Buckeyes tallied a season high 97.800 at the North Regional championships March 5 in the Varsity Pool at Larkins Hall.
NATIONALLY KNOWN
Ohio State junior Becky Kim was named to the 2006 U.S. Senior National Team I Synchronized Swimming squad, U.S. Synchronized Swimming announced Nov. 21. Kim was named to the 12-member group after competing in the Senior National team trials Nov. 18-20 in Portland, Ore.
Serving as a member of the 2005 Team I squad, Kim is one of seven swimmers returning to the 2006 team, including former Buckeye Kate Hooven (2004). Team I will represent the United States at the FINA World Cup Sept. 14-17, 2006, in Yokohama, Japan.
Twin sisters Leah and Leayn Pinette qualified to compete for a chance to remain on the Team II squad at the competition, following a stint on the 2005 team. The Team II members will be announced at the U.S. National Championships April 23-24, 2006, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and will represent the United States at the U.S. Open July 16-22 in Orlando, Fla.
FROM ALL OVER
The Buckeyes boast three swimmers who hail from Canada and Brazil. Seniors Carly Grimshaw and Chelsea Luker are natives of Markham, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec, respectively.
Buckeye newcomer Carmen Moraes is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In addition to recruiting outside the United States, OSU has student-athletes from Arizona (1), California (5), Connecticut (3), Florida (1), as well as Ohio (7).

The Buckeyes will compete at the Walsh Invitational Feb. 18 at the Northwest Community Center in Canton, Ohio.
