Synchronized Swimming Wins OSU College Association Meet – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State synchronized swimming coach Linda Lichter-Witter claimed her 400th OSU and career victory, as the Buckeye synchronized swimming team recorded 92 points to finish first at the OSU College Association Meet Saturday at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Lichter-Witter now is 402-7 after Ohio State swept all three routines and the team event for the third-consecutive meet, defeating William & Mary (71), Walsh (52), Miami (44) and Ohio (33).
The trio of Chelsea Luker (Sr., Montreal, Quebec/Montreal Synchro), Carly Grimshaw (Sr., Markham, Ontario/Synchro Optima) and Ashley Rule (Jr., San Jose, Calif./Santa Clara Aquamaids) notched a 91.167 to finish first. Teammates Michelle Benzie (So., El Cajon, Calif./Sweetwater Dolphins), Julia Broadfoot (So., El Cajon, Calif./Sweetwater Dolphins) and Jayme DeLancy (Fr., Hamden, Conn./New Canaan Aquianas) were featured for the first time this season and recorded an 86.333 to place second.
Luker and Grimshaw scored a season-best 94.500 to win their third-consecutive duet competition. Carmen Moraes (Fr., Rio de Janeiro/Tyvca Tenis Clube) and Ellen Hacker (Jr., Newark, Ohio/Columbus Coralinas) were a close second, compiling a mark of 93.000, which bettered their previous high of 90.667, recorded at the Ohio Invitational Jan. 29.
Moraes was the lone soloist for Ohio State and the freshman finished first with a score of 91.500, which tops her earlier season-best of 86.667, notched at the OSU Tri-Meet Jan. 21. In the team event, the Buckeye `A’ team posted a 95.167 to help OSU complete the sweep. The OSU `B’ team finished second with a mark of 92.167.
Ohio State will prepare for three consecutive road trips, beginning with a trip to Richmond, Va., where it will face Richmond Feb. 11 at Robins Center Pool and William & Mary Feb. 12 at Adair Pool in Williamsburg, Va.
The Buckeyes then will compete at the Walsh Invitational Feb. 18 at the Northwest Community Center in Canton, Ohio.
