Synchronized Swimming Posts Wins vs. Richmond and William & Mary – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio -The Ohio State synchronized swimming team posted two wins during the weekend, defeating Richmond, 93-62, Saturday at Robins Center Pool in Richmond, Va., and William & Mary, 105-85, Sunday at Adair Pool in Williamsburg, Va. With the victories, the Buckeyes improve to 11-0.
Against Richmond the Buckeyes were led by junior Becky Kim (Walnut Creek, Calif./Walnut Creek Aquanuts), who finished first in solo with a score of 94.500 and teamed up with Ellen Hacker (Jr., Newark, Ohio/Columbus Coralinas) and Carmen Moraes (Fr., Rio de Janeiro/Tyvca Tenis Clube) to win the trio event with a mark of 91.833.
The other Buckeye trio routine featured Carly Grimshaw (Sr., Markham, Ontario/Synchro Optima), Chelsea Luker (Sr., Montreal, Quebec/Montreal Synchro) and Ashley Rule (Jr., San Jose, Calif./Santa Clara Aquamaids) and they finished second with a score of 89.500.
In duet, Grimshaw and Luker executed a winning routine, scoring a 94.500. Hacker and Moraes finished second in duet, recording a 90.833.
The OSU `A’ and `B’ teams finished first and second, scoring season highs of 95.833 and 94.333, respectively.
Kim was the lone soloist vs. William & Mary and posted a 95.333. In the duet competition, Grimshaw and Luker continued its streak of five consecutive dual victories, winning with a season and team-best 95.833. Hacker and Moraes were second with a score of 91.500. Leayn (So., Bristol, Conn./New Canaan Aquianas) and Leah Pinette (So., Bristol, Conn./New Canaan Aquianas) made their debut at duet and posted a score of 90.00, which was good for third place. Brooke Paul (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Coralinas) and Megan Mikulecky (Sr., Carmichael, Calif./Sacramento Synchronized), who also competed in duet for the first time this season, were fourth with an 89.167.
In the trio competition, Hacker, Kim and Moraes won with a season and team-high 94.833, while Grimshaw, Luker and Rule were second, scoring a 93.167, a season best. Coming in third was the group of Michelle Benzie (So., El Cajon, Calif./Sweetwater Dolphins), Julia Broadfoot (So., El Cajon, Calif./Sweetwater Dolphins) and Jayme DeLancy (Fr., Hamden, Conn./New Canaan Aquianas) with a personal-best of 91.167.
The Buckeyes will compete at the Walsh Invitational Saturday at the Northwest Community Center in Canton, Ohio.
