Women’s Hockey Drops 2-1 Decision at Princeton – Ohio State Buckeyes

PRINCETON, N.J. – The ninth-ranked Ohio State women’s hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to Princeton Sunday at Hobey Baker Rink in Princeton, N.J. The series split with Princeton was the final nonconference game for Ohio State this season.
The Buckeyes moved to 12-7-1 on the year (7-6-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association), while the Tigers improved to 10-6-2 overall (8-2-1 ECAC Hockey League).
Princeton jumped out on top, 1-0, with a power play goal at 8:11 of the first period. The Tigers out-shot the Buckeyes 8-6 in the first period, with OSU senior goalie Erika Vanderveer (Bradford, Ontario) making seven saves.
Ohio State took advantage of a 5-on-3 power-play early in the second period to tie the score at 1-1. Junior Lisa Chesson (Plainfield, Ill.) knocked home a rebound of an Amber Bowman (Sr., Innisfil, Ontario) shot at 4:43 of the second to tie the game. Junior defenseman Tessa Bonhomme (Sudbury, Ontario) also assisted on the goal. OSU out-shot Princeton 11-10 in the period.
The Tigers went back ahead, 2-1, early in the third period, scoring the eventual game-winner at 5:52 of the period. The Buckeyes put some late pressure on the Tiger net but were unable to tally the equalizer.
Vanderveer made 23 saves for OSU and is 11-4-1 on the year. Ohio State ended the game with 26 shots, while Princeton had 25.
The Buckeyes were 1-for-8 on the power play in the game, while the Tigers were 1-of-6.
OSU returns to WCHA action next weekend with a home series Jan. 5-6 vs. Bemidji State at OSU Ice Rink. Games begin at 7:07 p.m. Friday and 4:07 p.m. Saturday.
