Kruse Scores Twice as No. 7 Buckeyes Blank Northwestern, 4-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Lauren Kruse scored twice as the No. 7 Ohio State field hockey team shut out Northwestern, 4-0, Sunday at North Turf Field. Sophomore Linda Haussener added a goal and an assist in the game as the Buckeyes recorded their fourth shutout of the season. Ohio State improves to 11-2 overall with a 3-1 record in Big Ten games. Northwestern falls to 6-8 and 1-3 in conference matchups.
Freshman goalkeeper Lindsay Quintiliani (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made three saves to notch her fourth shutout this season and increase her record to 11-2. She has held OSU opponents to one goal or less seven times this season.
Kruse (Toledo, Ohio/Ottawa Hills) scored her two goals in the first half to give Ohio State a 2-0 lead at halftime. She opened the scoring at 14:56 by knocking in a loose ball in front of the net. Just over seven minutes later, Kruse picked up the ball from senior Jessica Gofgosky (Marathon, N.Y./Marathon Central) and hit it toward the NU goal. Her shot trickled in at 22:14 to up the Buckeye lead to two goals. With the two goals, Kruse increased her season total to seven.
Ohio State doubled its lead with two goals in the second half for the 4-0 victory. At 47:05, Haussener (Baden, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Baden) fired in her own rebound for her eighth goal of the year. She then passed the ball from the right across to senior Saskia Mueller (Zuerich, Switzerland/Gymnasium Unterstrass) at the left post who tapped it in for the final OSU goal at 62:01. Haussener and Mueller upped their season point totals to 25 to tie for second on the team.
Overall, the Buckeyes totaled 19 shots, 12 of which were on goal, and held Northwestern to just four shots in each half. The teams were even on penalty corners with six apiece.
Ohio State will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for its next two games, Oct. 20 and 22. The Buckeyes take on VCU at 3 p.m. Friday in a neutral-site game before facing No. 20 Michigan at noon Sunday. OSU will then conclude its regular-season schedule Oct. 28 with a noon game at North Turf Field.
