After missing the 2005 season because of injury, Grubb has returned to the lineup this season and has tallied 10 points on two goals and six assists. Grubb started the season just two points and four assists behind Lisa Suttmiller (1994-97) for the all-time lead.
ADD TO THE COLLECTION
Lisa Collison was named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week for the week of Oct. 2 after her three-goal performance vs. Northwestern Oct. 1. Collison notched a hat trick against the Wildcats, becoming the first Buckeye to do so since 2004 when former midfielders Heather Miller and Danielle Dietrich recorded three goals against Xavier and Minnesota, respectively.
The award by Top Drawer Soccer is the second of Collison’s career. The sophomore earned the weekly honor this time last year (Oct. 3, 2005) after tallying a three-goal weekend vs. Illinois (Sept. 30) and Iowa (Oct. 2).
HATS OFF TO YOU
With her three-goal outing against Northwestern, Lisa Collison is tied for second all time for the most goals scored by a Buckeye in a game. Collison joins five former Buckeyes in the records list. Tiffany Tisdale (1994-97) owns the record with four goals against the Miami RedHawks in 1997.
THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT JESSE
Despite dropping its first match at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium this season against Northwestern, Ohio State owns an impressive record of 84-39-10 (.669) in Columbus.
The Buckeyes are 5-1-1 at JOMS in 2006 and have three more matches to play.
BIG TEN RECORD
In 13 seasons, Ohio State has compiled a 48-60-11 conference record.
OFFENSIVELY SPEAKING
Three of the four goals and points leaders from the past four seasons are on the 2006 roster. Lisa Collison (13g, 3a) was the 2005 goals and points leader. Lara Dickenmann owned the ranking in 2004 (13 g, 12a) and Lisa Grubb was tops in 2001 (12g, 5a) and 2002 (7g, 3a).
MAKE IT 100
Head coach Lori Walker earned her 100th OSU win Aug. 27 when Ohio State shut out Xavier, 2-0, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
Walker’s Buckeye career record is 107-79-15 in 10-plus seasons at Ohio State.
BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK
True freshman Lauren Robertson was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 28 following her performances vs. Kent State and Xavier. Robertson is the first OSU goalkeeper since 1998 to record two shutouts in the first two games of the season. The last Buckeye keeper to accomplish the feat was Ohio State career shutouts leader Amber Barnes (1997-2000). Barnes recorded 22 shutouts in her four-year career and opened the `98 campaign with shutout victories against Evansville (1-0) and Louisville (5-0).
Prior to Barnes, only Stacey Smith (1993 and 1995) tallied consecutive shutouts in the first two games of a season.
LAST TIME OUT
VS. WRIGHT STATE The gamewinning goal by Lisa Grubb lifted Ohio State over nonconference opponent Wright State, 3-1, Wednesday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The win improves the Buckeyes to 8-5-1 overall and they remain 3-3-0 in the Big Ten Conference. The Raiders drop to 8-3-3 and 1-2-1 in the Horizon League. The match, which was scheduled for 7:30 p.m., was delayed one hour and five minutes because of inclement weather.
Grubb ended the 1-all tie in the 42nd minute when she picked up the rebound from Keiana Mitchell’s shot and put the ball in the back of the net for her first goal of the season and her 32nd overall. Both Mitchell and Carla Arbulu, who took the corner kick that led to the goal, were credited with the assist.
Grubb then sealed the win for Ohio State at the 73:41 mark when she recorded her second goal of the game. Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 9) Lara Dickenmann and Caitlin Colfer fed Grubb the ball from the midfield and the senior tri-captain was able to beat a Wright State defender from the left side of the box.
The Buckeyes were down early after the Raiders’ Amy Miller scored on a penalty kick at 5:33. However, Ohio State answered when Mitchell notched her first point of the game and the season after she led Lisa Collison from the midfield to the goal for the score in the 19th minute. Collison’s game-tying goal was her eighth of the season.
Ohio State out shot Wright State, 16-8, and held the corner kicks advantage, 7-1. OSU keeper Lauren Robertson made two stops, while WSU’s Steph Comisar had five saves. The Raiders also were credited with a team save.
UP NEXT
