Bonhomme Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Tessa Bonhomme was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Bonhomme, a defenseman from Sudbury, Ontario, scored seven points for Ohio State in a season-opening sweep of Northeastern Oct. 6-7 at OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes set two records on the weekend, scoring a single-game high nine goals Friday in the 9-3 win before defeating the Huskies 7-1 Saturday. The 16 total goals were a team record for most goals in a series.
After redshirting the 2005-06 season because of commitments with the Canadian Women’s National Team Centralization Program, Bonhomme returned to the Buckeyes with an outstanding seven-point performance against Northeastern. In her first college game since March 6, 2005, Bonhomme recorded a career-high four points and followed with three assists Saturday. Five of her seven points (1g, 4a) were on the power play and she anchored the Ohio State special teams that were 7-for-12 on the power play and 16-for-16 on the penalty kill.
Ohio State next opens its WCHA schedule with a home series against the defending national champion Wisconsin Badgers Oct. 13-14. Games begin at 7 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at OSU Ice Rink.
