Synchronized Swimming Scores 96 Points to Win OSU Tri-Meet – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team (2-0) won its 14th OSU Tri-Meet with a score of 96 points Saturday at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Keuka College finished second, recording 74 points and Michigan placed third with 61 points. The Buckeyes earned first-place honors in the duet, solo and trio events in their season opener.
Ohio State’s Carly Grimshaw (Sr., Markham, Ontario/Synchro Optima) and Chelsea Luker (Sr., Montreal, Quebec/Montreal Synchro) paced the Buckeyes with an 89.00 in the duet routine. Teammates Ellen Hacker (Jr., Newark, Ohio/Columbus Coralinas) and Carmen Moraes (Fr., Rio de Janeiro/Tyvca Tenis Clube) performed a second-place duet, notching an 86.500.
In the solo routine, Becky Kim (Jr., Walnut Creek, Calif./Walnut Creek Aquanuts), who is a member of the 2006 U.S. Senior National Team I Synchronized Swimming squad, captured first place with a score of 90.500. Moraes was second, tallying an 86.667.
Moraes teamed up with Hacker and Kim in the trio event for her third routine of the day and the group helped solidify the Buckeyes’ win after earning 91.667 points. After sweeping the Top 2 spots in the duet and solo, OSU took first and second in trio as well, with Grimshaw, Luker and Ashley Rule (Jr., San Jose, Calif./Santa Clara Aquamaids) finishing second with a mark of 90.167.
Ohio State returns to action at the Ohio Invitational Jan. 29 in Athens, Ohio.
