COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s soccer forward Lisa Collison recorded one goal and an assist to help the Canadian Under-20 national team notch a 7-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago Thursday in the first round of the CONCACAF tournament in Veracruz, Mexico.
After nearly falling behind 1-0 off a Trinidad and Tobago free-kick in the first 10 minutes of the match, Collison (Fr., Niagara Falls, Ontario/Burlington Flames) scored Canada’s first goal of the game courtesy of a free kick from teammate and University of Tennessee midfielder Veronique Maranda. Collison then assisted on a goal by Maranda, which gave Canada a 2-0 lead.
Aysha Jamani, Kaylen Kyle and Jodi-Ann Robinson also contributed goals and Rheanne Sleiman had two for Canada’s final tally.
In the other Group A match of the day, Mexico defeated Panama 10-0.
Canada will face Panama, which fell to host Mexico 10-0 Thursday, at noon CST, Friday at the Estadio Luis Pirata Fuentes.
