The Ohio State football program, which for this week’s Big Ten opener with Iowa will feature linebacker Bobby Carpenter and defensive tackle Marcus Green on the cover, is much more than just an award winning publication during the month of September.
On the heels of Hurricane Katrina, the university announced the “September to Remember” campaign, a fund raiser designed to assist the victims of Katrina, which has been labeled as one of this country’s worst natural disasters.
As part of that campaign, $2.00 from each football game program sold at Ohio State during the four home games in September will be donated to the Hurricane relief effort.
After three games, that figure stands at $97,094. Added to the money raised through donations at Ohio Stadium thus far, the total dollar figure is just over $110,000.
Approximately 17,000 programs are for sale for this week’s game against the defending co-champion Hawkeyes.
“We really appreciate the effort of our fans in helping make this project such a success,” said Diana Sabau, director of the athletics department’s publications office. “With a great day this week, we could approach the $150,000 figure.
“I want to thank (program editor) Todd Lamb for producing a wonderful publication, as well as our fans for getting behind this effort.”
For the past three years running, the Ohio State football program has been judged best in the country by a panel of writers and sports information directors across the country.
