Three Ohio State Rowers Receive All-America Accolades – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) named three Ohio State rowers to the seven annual 2005 CRCA Pocock All-America first and second teams Friday. Seniors Diana Albrecht and Amanda Purcell were All-American first team honorees, while sophomore Annabelle Fago earned second-team accolades. All three were members of the Buckeyes’ first varsity eight, which was ranked in the Top 5 the majority of the season and finished sixth at the NCAA championships.
The award marks Albrecht’s second first-team accolade. The Dresden, Germany, native is a three-time All-Big Ten honoree and a three-time All-Central Region selection.
Purcell, of Hilliard, Ohio, was named an All-Big Ten and All-Central Region honoree.
Fago, of Giessen, Germany, received her second All-America honor following being named to the second-team in 2004. Fago is a two-time All-Central Region honoree and an All-Big Ten selection. Last season, Fago was named the Big Ten Rowing Freshman of the Year.
The All-America award is designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of female rowers and coxswains during the current season. The teams were selected by the regional chairpersons following the NCAA championships from the rowers who had received all-region first team honors.
