Rogers Ranked U.S.A.’s No. 2 Sabre Fencer, is Among Eight Buckeyes Ranked in Current Standings – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State fencer Jason Rogers helped the United State men’s sabre fencing team to the silver medal last week at the Grand Prix World Cup held in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. Rogers, now ranked No. 2 in the U.S. men’s sabre senior division, is one of eight Buckeyes nationally ranked in the June 15 report by U.S. Fencing (usfencing.com).
Rogers and his teammates Ivan Lee (nation’s No. 1), Timothy Morehouse (No. 4) and Timothy Hagamen (No. 23) comprise the world’s third-ranked men’s sabre team. In the past 12 months, that quartet has placed in the top four at four different world events, including a fourth-place finish at the Olympic Games in Athens last summer when they came up just one touch shy of the bronze medal.
The squad placed fourth in Poland May 15 and won the bronze in Poland May 30. The men’s sabre team from France, who won gold in Athens, also topped the U.S. team in Venezuela, albeit by a narrow 45-41 final tally.
Rogers, who will be a senior for Ohio State in 2005-06, will help lead the Buckeyes in their quest to bring the national championship trophy back to Columbus, where it rested following Ohio State’s 2004 national championship. Last spring, rival Notre Dame claimed the national title, while Ohio State took second.
