Ohio State Men’s Gymnastics Receive No. 1 Overall Seed in NCAA Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – After winning the Big Ten title to clinch the automatic bid, the No. 1 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team received the No. 1 overall seed for the 2005 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships. The NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Committee announced Tuesday the Top 12 teams selected to participate in the NCAA qualifier sessions April 7 at the Holleder Center on the campus of the U.S. Military Academy. All six Big Ten teams will be participating in the event with the Buckeyes (224.15) and No. 2 Illinois (222.905) claiming the Top 2 spots.
Based on the National Qualifying Average (NQA), which is the average of a program’s highest scores, including a doubled conference score, the Top 12 schools, as well as the Top 6 all-arounders and individual event specialists, not on a competing team will vie for a spot in the team and event finals. The Top 3 team, all-around and event participants will advance to the finals April 8-9.
The Buckeyes are the only team in the nation to be ranked in the Top 3 on all six events. Ohio State is No. 1 in the nation on floor (37.405), parallel bars (36.935) and high bar (38.300). OSU also is No. 3 on pommel horse (37.115), rings (37.960) and vault (37.175).
Ohio State is coming off of its first Big Ten championship since 2002 (225.350) and College Sports Television (CSTV) will air the conference championships on tape delay at 9 p.m. Wednesday.
