Men’s Basketball Opens Exhibition Season on Winning Note – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Senior Terence Dials scored 22 points and junior Ron Lewis added 20 in his Ohio State debut to lead Ohio State to an 83-53 win against Findlay Sunday in the exhibition opener for the Buckeyes at Value City Arena.
The Buckeyes opened the game with a 17-6 run and were never seriously challenged the rest of the way. Ohio State led 40-32 at the half and outscored the Oilers 43-21 over the final 20 minutes.
Ohio State knocked down 53 percent of its shots (32-61) from the field while holding the Oilers to 37 percent efficiency (20-54).
Thad Matta, Ohio State head coach, used several combinations with all 10 Ohio State players playing double-digit minutes.
Senior J.J. Sullinger also scored in double figures for Ohio State, recording a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to help the Buckeyes to a 44-25 advantage on the boards.
In addition to Lewis, two others made their first appearance in OSU uniforms Sunday. Junior Sylvester Mayes, a junior college transfer, scored seven points with five rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes off the bench. Freshman Brayden Bell, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, scored eight points and handed out three assists. Findlay was led by Brent Schnipke and Dustin Pfeifer with 13 points each. Josh Bostic was the top rebounder with seven.
Ohio State will play its final exhibition of the season at 2 p.m. Nov. 13 against Ashland at Value City Arena. The Buckeyes will open the regular season at 2 p.m. Nov. 20 at home against Chicago State.
