OSU Synchronized Swimmer Becky Kim Named to U.S. Senior National Team I – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior Becky Kim was named to the 2006 U.S. Senior National Team I Synchronized Swimming squad, U.S. Synchronized Swimming announced Monday. Kim was named to the 12-member group after competing in the Senior National team trials Nov. 18-20 in Portland, Ore. Serving as a member of the 2005 Team I squad, Kim is one of seven swimmers returning to the 2006 team, including former Buckeye Kate Hooven (2004). Team I will represent the United States at the FINA World Cup Sept. 14-17, 2006, in Yokohama, Japan.
Twin sisters Leah and Leayn Pinette qualified to compete for a chance to remain on the Team II squad at the competition, following a stint on the 2005 team. The Team II members will be announced at the U.S. National Championships April 23-24, 2006, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and will represent the United States at the U.S. Open July 16-22 in Orlando, Fla.
Kim, (Jr., Walnut Creek, Calif./Walnut Creek Aquanuts) a two-time All-American at Ohio State, was an integral part to the Buckeye squad in 2005, helping OSU finish second at the collegiate national championships. Partnering with former OSU swimmer Lindsay Newbill at the 2005 United States National Championships, Kim finished seventh with 78.667 in duet. Kim also recorded several 2005 season highs, including a 96.100 in solo, 97.200 in duet with Newbill and 96.200 in trio with Ellen Hacker (Jr., Newark, Ohio/Columbus Coralinas) and Newbill.
Leah (So., Bristol, Conn./New Canaan Aquianas) and Leayn (So., Bristol, Conn./New Canaan Aquianas) competed in two meets for the Buckeyes in 2005, finishing first in duet (89.500) in the Maize and Blue Invitational and second (90.167) in duet at the OSU Tri-Meet. Both Leah and Leayn are 2005 OSU Scholar-Athletes.
The Buckeyes kick off the 2005-06 season at Florida with the date and time to be determined. Ohio State hosts its first meet of the season at the OSU Tri-Meet Jan. 21, 2006, at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
