Columbus, Ohio – Lara Dickenmann, Danielle Dietrich, Lisa Grubb, Melissa Miller and Keiana Mitchell of the Ohio State women’s soccer team were announced as 2004 All-Great Lakes regional honorees Thursday by SoccerBuzz.com, a website solely devoted to women’s college soccer.
Dickenmann, who led the Buckeyes in scoring en route to being named 2004 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, was deemed the top first-year performer in the Great Lakes region by SoccerBuzz. She also earned first-team accolades and was joined by Miller, a sophomore defender, who was named to her second straight regional first team. Grubb, a redshirt junior, was named to the second team, while fellow junior Dietrich earned third team status. Mitchell, a freshman defender, joined Dickenmann on the 2004 Great Lakes All-Freshman team.
Last month, Dickenmann, Grubb and Miller all were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association All-Great Lakes team as well.
Dickenmann (Kreins, Switzerland), a finalist for the 2004 Soccerbuzz.com National Freshman of the Year award, set Ohio State single-season records with 13 goals, 12 assists and 38 points as the Buckeyes’ leading scorer in 2004. She netted six game-winners, including three in Ohio State’s postseason run to the national semifinals. Dickenmann is the third international star in the last four years to collect the top rookie award in the Great Lakes region and is the first Ohio State player ever recognized for one of the top player honors in the region.
Miller, also a 2003 All-Great Lakes first team member, helped the Buckeye defense post all-time lows in goals against average in each of the last two seasons. The Ohio State backline allowed just 18 scores in 26 matches for a 0.67 goals against average. The Cincinnati native also aided the Buckeyes in recording a program-best 13 shutouts in 2004. Miller, who has started all 47 Ohio State matches the last two seasons, scored personal highs offensively with 10 points on three goals and four assists. She scored the game-winning strike at Michigan State in the regular season and vs. Michigan in the Big Ten tournament on a 40-yard kick.
Grubb, who finished the 2004 season as the all-time leading goal-scorer at Ohio State, also tallied six game-winning goals, including the deciding strike in the “Sweet 16” win over Tennessee. The Portage, Mich. native completed the season with career bests in goals (12), assists (10) and points with 34. Grubb’s 12 goals helped her eclipse the career mark at Ohio State. She finished the season with 31scores for her career, besting the 30 goals posted by former Buckeye Lisa Suttmiller from 1994-97. Grubb was a SoccerBuzz freshman All-American in 2001.
Dietrich, also a SoccerBuzz freshman All-American in 2002, established career highs with 30 points on 11 goals and eight assists. The Cinicinnati native also netted a pair of game-winners.
Mitchell, also from Cincinnati, started in the Ohio State backline during the latter portion of the season, including the Buckeyes’ spectacular postseason run. She helped Ohio State limit 2004 Big Ten Player of the Year Tiffany Weimer of Penn State to just one shot in the league tournament championship match, a 2-0 OSU win at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Offensively, Mitchell accounted for two goals and an assist.
