OSU Gymnasts Conclude Competition at 2004 U.S. Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State gymnasts Ronald Ferris and Randy Monahan concluded competition at the 2004 Visa U.S. Championships held June 2-5 in Nashville, Tenn. Competing amongst the top male gymnasts in the country, Ferris and Monahan finished 16th and 17th, respectively. Paul Hamm, who trains with head coach Miles Avery at the Steelwood Athletic Facility in Columbus, Ohio, captured his third consecutive U.S. championships senior all-around title.
Ferris (So., Austintown, Ohio) improved his preliminary standing of 21st to 16th in the finals after he increased his scores on three events, including tying his opening high bar score of 9.6, which was fifth in the individual event finals. The 2004 Big Ten High Bar Champion compiled a combined all-around score of 106.975.
Recording a total score of 106.925, Monahan (Jr., Elizabethtown, Pa.) finished 17th, posting scores of 9.2 or better on floor, rings and vault. In individual events competition, the 2004 Big Ten All-Around Champion tied for ninth on rings, scoring a 9.275.
Also training with Avery, former Buckeye Raj Bhavsar, and Morgan Hamm remained members of the U.S. senior national team by finishing in the Top 14. Bhavsar claimed the rings title, scoring a 9.8 and compiled an all-around score of 111.275. In addition to his all-around crown, Paul Hamm won floor (9.850) and high bar (9.825). Morgan Hamm tied for third on pommel horse with twin brother Paul, posting a 9.550. Morgan also finished third on vault (9.650) and high bar (9.725). As members of the U.S. national team, Bhavsar, and Morgan and Paul Hamm receive automatic bids to the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials June 24-27 in Anaheim, Calif.
