Ohio State Synchronized Swimming Earns First Place at North Regional Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized swimming team earned first place at the North Regional Championships Saturday in the varsity pool at Larkins Hall. With the win, the Buckeyes, who earned a total of 104 points, earned the opportunity to compete at the 2004 Collegiate National Championships.
In the solo event, Leslie Edgerton finished first with a mark of 88.900. Teammates Becky Kim and Kate Hooven won the duet event with a score of 94.800. Ellen Hacker and Ashley Rule tallied 90.900 to place second in the event. Hooven, Kim and Lindsay Newbill captured first-place honors in trio with a mark of 93.600.
The Ohio State ‘A’ team also picked up a win in the team event with a score of 96.600. Swimming for the Buckeyes was Heather Burdick, Hooven, Kim, Katrin Eggenberger, Ashley Rule, Newbill, Chisako Ukai and Lauren Marsh. The ‘B’ team recorded 94.200 to place second in the event. Swimming for that squad was Jessica Beck, Lauren Byrom, Edgerton, Valerie Jolibois, Katie Meyer, Megan Mikulecky, Stephanie Raftery and Erin Schmidt.
Hacker and teammate Aubry Ford claimed the first two spots in figures for the Buckeyes, scoring 74.573 and 71.761, respectively. Kim also earned a win in technical elements with a mark of 8.276, followed by Hooven (8.113) and Edgerton (8.083).
Ohio State will move on to compete in every event at the 2004 Collegiate National Championships March 23-25 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Buckeyes will be looking for their fifth-consecutive national championship.
