Women’s Soccer Competes in Annual 7 vs. 7 Tournament – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team competed in the third annual Scarlet and Gray 7 vs. 7 Classic at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center in Columbus, Ohio February 28th. The Buckeyes split into two squads – Scarlet and Gray – and played against some of the top club and college teams from around the country. Competing teams included the Chicago Eclipse Under-17 (U-17), who placed third in the 2003 US Nationals, and the CUP Premier U-16, which placed fourth in the US Nationals.
The Ohio State Scarlet team claimed the tournament by defeating the Chicago Eclipse U-17 team 5-1. The Eclipse advanced to the championship match with a hard fought 3-2 victory over the Ohio Premier U15 team, the 2002 Region II Champions.
In the semifinals, the Scarlet squad met the Gray unit, avoiding an all Ohio State final. In a thrilling match, the Scarlet emerged with a thrilling 3-2 victory to advance to the finals, where the team eventually knocked off the Eclipse.
The Buckeyes will continue winter and summer conditioning before beginning preseason drills in August. Ohio State will open its 2004 regular season against Portland University August 31.
