The Buckeyes vs. Purdue
Purdue leads the all-time series with Ohio State, 78-71. The Buckeyes are 23-51 in West Lafayette and 48-27 in Columbus. The two teams will meet just once this season. The No. 21 Boilermakers are 16-12 against Ohio State while ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Buckeyes have won seven of the last eight meetings vs. Purdue, which includes a 52-44 Ohio State win last season in Columbus.
Badgers Ride Hot Shooting Harris to Win
Devin Harris made five of seven 3-pointers and scored 29 points to lead No. 17 Wisconsin to a 69-57 victory over Ohio State Wednesday. Harris’ point total was one off his career best against Illinois in the Badgers’ last game. He made nine of 12 shots and six of seven free throws in addition to recording four rebounds, four assists and five steals. J.J. Sullinger scored 14 points for Ohio State. Ohio State led 20-18 on Terence Dials’ inside shot with 9:17 left in the half, but the Buckeyes didn’t hit another basket for almost five minutes. Over that time, the Badgers scored eight of nine points. Both Harris and Clayton Hanson hit 3-pointers and Dave Mader added a 15-foot jumper for a 26-21 lead. Tony Stockman’s 3-pointer brought the Buckeyes to 31-27 before the Badgers ran off the final six points of the half. The Badgers then hit five of their first seven shots from the field – including a layup and a fast-break dunk by Harris – at the outset of the second half to bump the lead to 49-29. The game never got closer than the final margin, with Ohio State scoring the final seven points of the game.
Radinovic One of Big Ten’s Most Consistent Shooters
Senior Velimir Radinovic is second in the Big Ten in field goal shooting percentage, knocking down 63.6 percent of his shots (63-99). He has made 55 percent of his shots for his career (219-396) in 100 games.
O’Brien Win Percentage Soars When 70 Points Reached
In Jim O’Brien’s seven seasons in Columbus the Buckeyes have won 81 percent of their games when scoring 70 or more points. Ohio State is 5-1 this season when the 70-point mark is reached. The Buckeyes were 4-7 when scoring 70 points in O’Brien’s first year in 1997-98. Since that season, Ohio State has been successful 86 percent of the time when scoring 70 or more points.

O’Brien 19-6 With Week to Prepare
Ohio State has a record of 19-6 (.760) under Jim O’Brien when there is a week or more between games over the last seven seasons. The Buckeyes had a streak of 11-consecutive wins snapped with a loss to Georgia Tech earlier this year (73-53, Dec. 3). Ohio State is 2-1 this season with a week off between contests heading into the game at Wisconsin Feb. 14. O’Brien is 7-3 against Big Ten teams when there is a week to prepare and 7-1 since his first season at Ohio State in 1997-98. The last loss to a league opponent following an extended break was an 80-77 loss at Illinois in the Big Ten opener Jan. 6, 2000.

Stockman, Sullinger Pace Buckeyes, Dials, Radinovic in Big Ten Play
Junior Tony Stockman leads Ohio State with an average of 12.4 points a game. He has connected on 83 percent of his foul shots (29-35). With a total of 35 steals, Stockman is among Big Ten leaders (5th) with an average of 1.94 thefts a game. Sophomore J.J. Sullinger averages 10.6 points a game, second on the team. Sophomore Terence Dials leads the Buckeyes against conference foes with 10.7 points per game. He has made 53 percent of his shots (24-45) and 76 percent of his free throw attempts (16-21) in league play. Velimir Radinovic averages 10.5 points per game against Big Ten competition and is the leading rebounder with 6.7 a contest. The Buckeyes outrebound Big Ten opponents 37.2-31.5 per game.
T. Dials Playing Well Inside at Both Ends
Sophomore center/forward Terence Dials, who missed the majority of 2002-03 with a back injury, is the team’s leading rebounder and fourth leading scorer. He is averaging 8.9 points and 6.7 rebounds, including a career-high 14-rebound effort in Ohio State’s 77-71 win over Central Michigan at the Maui Invitational. He scored a career-high 19 points in the recent meeting with Indiana. He also leads the Buckeyes with 14 blocked shots.
Noting the Wisconsin Game
* Ohio State scored 18 of its first 21 points in the paint, with the other three points coming from the free throw line. The Buckeyes outscored the Badgers in the paint 18-10 in the first half and 32-26 for the game.
* Despite the loss to Wisconsin, Ohio State holds an 80-57 advantage in the all-time series vs. the Badgers. The Buckeyes now own a 50-19 series lead when playing Wisconsin in Columbus. When Ohio State plays nationally ranked Wisconsin teams, the Buckeyes lead the series 5-4. The Badgers have now won three of the last four games vs. Ohio State, but the Buckeyes have won seven of the last 11 contests vs. Wisconsin.
* In its sixth season in Value City Arena, Ohio State is now 75-17, including a 5-4 mark at the VCA this season. Ohio State is now 13-5 against ranked opponents in the VCA.
* Ohio State out-rebounded Wisconsin 41-24, dropping the Buckeyes’ record to 8-7 this season when out-rebounding their opponent.
* Ohio State’s starting lineup of junior Brandon Fuss-Cheatham, junior Tony Stockman, sophomore J.J. Sullinger, senior Velimir Radinovic and sophomore Terence Dials made their fifth appearance of the season, which marks the most games started for the same five-man unit this season. The combination started four of the first five games but had not started together since Dec. 3 vs. Georgia Tech in Columbus.
* Wisconsin’s Devin Harris scored 29 points against the Buckeyes Wednesday night, which marked the second-most points scored by an opposing player in Value City Arena. Michigan State’s Marcus Taylor scored 32 points against Ohio State Feb. 27, 2002.

* Senior center Velimir Radinovic played in his 100th career game Wednesday. His first rebound of the game, an offensive rebound with 16:31 remaining in the first half, was Radinovic’s 400th career rebound.
* Senior forward Shun Jenkins grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds.
Noting the Buckeyes
Redshirt sophomore Terence Dials has been known for his scoring touch around the basket. In 57 career games, he has made 159-of-294 shots from the floor for a shooting percentage of .541. He has improved his foul shooting this year as well, hitting on 72 percent (54-75) of his shots. He has grabbed five or more rebounds in 15 of 19 games this year. His 19 points vs. Indiana pushed him over the 400 mark (426) for his career.
Junior Brandon Fuss-Cheatham’s playing time is up to 23 minutes a game this year. He has set career highs in scoring three times this season with 11 and 13 points, respectively, vs. Samford and Furman and then a 17-point effort at Iowa. He has 108 career assists, which includes 44 this year, a season best total.
Senior captain Velimir Radinovic reached 600 career points (634) for his Buckeye career with 10 points vs. Minnesota. He’s averaged 6.3 points in 100 games at Ohio State. From the field, Radinovic has been much improved. As a senior, he is connecting on 64 percent of his shots (63-99). For his career, he has connected on 219-396 shots (.553).
Junior Tony Stockman is closing on 1,000 career points (939). He eclipsed the 900-point mark with 10 at Illinois. He came to Ohio State with 716 points after two years at Clemson. Stockman has proven to be a dependable scorer at the foul line, hitting 29-35 shots (.829) this year. He’s made 78 percent of his free throw attempts for his career (110-141). With five field goals vs. UMBC, Stockman reached 300 for his career. Of his 319 made shots for his career, 191 have come from 3-point range (60 percent).
With 10 points against Dartmouth, sophomore J.J. Sullinger reached 400 career points, which includes 273 scored as a Razorback. He was Ohio State’s top scorer vs. Wisconsin with 14 points.
Nick Dials has made the most of his minutes this season. The New Haven, Ohio, native has 29 assists and 22 steals. Of his 21 field goals, 13 have been from 3-point range. He has connected on 88 percent of his foul shots this year (22-25).
The Bucks in the Big Ten
Terence Dials rates as the No. 7 rebounder in the Big Ten with 6.7 a game. Velimir Radinovic is No. 2 in the conference in field goal percentage (.636) and is No. 5 in offensive rebounds (2.68). Tony Stockman is No. 5 in 3-pointers made per game (2.00) and No. 5 in steals (1.94).
Purdue Starts League Season 4-2
No. 21 Purdue plays host to the Buckeyes with an overall record of 14-5 and a Big Ten mark of 4-2 following a road loss (63-58) to Indiana Tuesday. The Boilermakers were 10-3 out of conference with key wins over Seton Hall and Duke. League wins have come against Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan State. Purdue lost its Big Ten opener at Iowa 71-61.
Lowe High Man for Boilers
Guard Kenneth Lowe leads Purdue with an average of 14.1 points per game. He has gone to the foul line nearly twice as many times as any of his teammates. He is shooting 88 percent from the charity stripe (98-111). Matt Kiefer is next in attempts on the Boiler squad with 56 free throw tries. Guard David Teague adds 10.6 points to the Purdue offensive attack. The leading rebounder for the Boilermakers is senior center Ivan Kartelo with 6.1 a game.
Keady Going Strong in 26th Year
Purdue head coach Gene Keady, a 1958 graduate of Kansas State, is in his 26th season as a collegiate head coach and his 25th at Purdue. His overall record is 540-258 and his mark in West Lafayette is 502-239.
Sylvester Top Scorer vs. Purdue
Matt Sylvester, a sophomore forward, is the leading scorer for Ohio State against Purdue with an average of 12.0 points a game in two career meetings vs. the Boilers. Sylvester is out 4-6 weeks with an arch injury in his left foot. Senior Velimir Radinovic is the leading rebounder against Purdue with an average of 4.8 boards in five all-time games against the Boilermakers. He also is the leading available scorer in the Purdue series for the Buckeyes with 5.4 points a game.

Ohio State is playing its 91st season of Big Ten basketball in 2004. The Buckeyes own 17 regular season titles and one postseason tournament championship (2002). Ohio State’s last regular season title came in 2002 as well. The Buckeyes last won an outright title in 1992.

The Buckeyes at the VCA
Nov. 5, 2003 marked the five-year anniversary of the opening of Value City Arena. The 2003-04 campaign is the sixth season of basketball in the facility. Ohio State has a record of 75-17 (.815) at the VCA and has ranked among the Top 10 nationally in attendance each year. When all 19,200 seats are occupied, the Buckeyes have responded with a 21-6 record over the last six seasons. The nation’s best teams have also had their troubles with the Buckeyes at Value City Arena. Eighteen teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 have battled the Buckeyes at VCA. Ohio State has turned away 13 of those squads.
T. Dials Back on Court After Year Layoff
Sophomore center Terence Dials returns to the Ohio State lineup after missing the majority of his true-sophomore season with a back injury. Dials played the first six games in 2002-03 before going down for the remainder of the year with the injury. He was awarded a medical redshirt season a year ago and will retain three years of eligibility. The 6-9, 250-pounder from Youngstown, Ohio, set a freshman record at Ohio State with a .620 field goal shooting percentage (86-138). He leads the team with 6.7 rebounds a game this season.
O’Brien Welcomes Changes on Staff
Rick Boyages, who originally was on Jim O’Brien’s staff at Ohio State following their move from Boston College in 1997-98, is back with the Buckeyes as the associate head coach. Boyages spent the last three years as the head coach at William and Mary. After the 1999-2000 season, Boyages left Columbus to take over at William and Mary, where he compiled a record of 35-52. Another former Buckeye also returns in 2003-04. David Egelhoff, a former student manager, returns to take over the video operations of the men’s basketball team. He worked in the same capacity a year ago with the NBA’s Orlando Magic.
The Postseason Streak
Ohio State will be looking to qualify for postseason play for the sixth-consecutive season under head coach Jim O’Brien in 2003-04. The Buckeyes made four trips to the NCAA tournament from 1999-2002 before accepting a bid to play in the 2003 National Invitation Tournament a year ago. The current streak is the second longest in school history behind a 12-year stretch (1982-1993) in which Ohio State played in seven NCAA tournaments and made five NIT appearances.
O’Brien is tied with Eldon Miller for the most-consecutive postseason appearances while coaching the Buckeyes. Miller took three teams to NCAA tournament play and two to the NIT from 1982-86.
7 Buckeyes Spend Year in Residence
A total of seven student-athletes on the 2003-04 roster have spent a year on the Ohio State campus without playing in games for the Buckeyes. Sophomore Ricardo Billings sat out 2002-03 to satisfy academic requirements for eligibility this season. Sophomores Terence Dials (2002-03) and Matt Sylvester (2001-02) each sat out a season with back injuries but received medical redshirt seasons to retain four years of eligibility. Senior Shaun Smith (1999-00) did not play basketball his first season in Columbus before walking on with freshman eligibility for the 2000-01 campaign. Junior Matt Marinchick (2000-01) decided to redshirt his first year in Columbus to gain strength and experience. Finally, junior Tony Stockman and sophomore J.J. Sullinger both sat out the 2002-03 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules after leaving Clemson and Arkansas, respectively, following the 2001-02 season.
