OSU’s Lisa Grubb to Miss Remainder of 2003 Season – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – Ohio State junior forward Lisa Grubb (Portage, Mich./ Portage Central) will miss the remainder of the 2003 women’s soccer season after suffering a knee injury in OSU’s 4-1 season-opening victory over Indiana State Friday, Aug. 31 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Grubb, who led the Buckeyes with two goals and an assist in the win, went down midway through the second period after an Ohio State threat on the ISU goal.
Grubb, the 2002 Big Ten Tournament Offensive Most Valuable Player and team MVP in each of her two seasons with Ohio State, tallied her 18th and 19th career goals and ninth career assist in the victory, as she moved into fifth place in the program’s career points list with 47.
Grubb, the 2000 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, has led the Buckeyes in scoring in both the 2000 and 2001 seasons and currently stands at the top of the Ohio State charts tied with fellow junior Liz Mumley (Woodbridge, Va./ Woodbridge) with five points.
Ohio State head coach Lori Walker is confident in Grubb’s recovery and expects her team to respond to Grubb’s loss in a positive manner.
“You don’t replace a Lisa Grubb and what she means to a team,” Walker said. “She not only is a great player but a great leader. I am confident our squad can regroup and carry the weight. I also am confident that Lisa will fully recover from the injury. We just have to look at the positive aspects of a negative situation. The injury happened within a timeframe that will allow her to apply for a redshirt in 2003 and make Lisa available to resume her career at Ohio State in the 2004 and 2005 seasons.”
Ohio State’s next match is Friday at 1 p.m. vs. No. 6/8 Virginia at Jesse Owens Stadium.
