Four Ohio State Athletes Selected to the Verizon At-Large Academic All-District IV Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State athletes Rai Bhavsar (Houston, Texas), Vincent Ng (Broadview Heights, Ohio), Jason Rogers (Los Angeles, Calf.) and Scott Titus (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) were named to the 2003 Verizon At-Large Academic All-District IV Team. Ohio State is the only school with four athletes selected and the sole university with three first-team members on the at-large squad.
Bhavsar, a senior gymnast, is a first team selection this year and was a third team member last year. A marketing major, the team captain earned a 3.42 GPA. He finished second in the all-around at both the 2003 Big Ten and NCAA Championships. Bhavsar earned All-America honors in the all-around, pommel horse and ring events. He was the Big Ten Champion on the parallel bars this season and was the NCAA champion in the all-around and parallel bars last year. The 2002 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and OSU Male Athlete of the Year, Bhavsar is a four-time All-Big Ten pick, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete. He was a member of the U.S. team that earned a silver medal at the 2001 World Championships.
Ng, a member of the tennis team, was selected to the first team. Ng earned a 3.93 GPA while majoring in biology. The 2003 Ohio State Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient set the career singles record at Ohio State with 127 wins. He earned a 22-5 record during the 2003 season and was undefeated against Big Ten opponents. Ng is a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and a three-year Academic All-Big Ten selection. He won the 2002-03 Big Ten Indoor and Milwaukee Tennis Classic titles. Ng has been conditionally accepted into the Ohio State Medical School.
Rogers, a sophomore fencer with a 3.92 GPA as an undeclared major, was selected to the first team. A two-time first team All-American, he was a member of the Buckeye fencing squad that finished the season with a No. 4 national ranking. Rogers owned a perfect 15-0 record during the regular season dual-meet competition. He won the bronze medal at the 2002 and 2003 NCAA Championships and is a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete. Rogers went undefeated as a freshman with a 32-0 record and placed first at the 2002 NCAA Regional Qualifier. Rogers was the Junior Olympic champion in 1999 and the U-19 Champion in 1999 and 2000.
Titus, a graduate student and member of the ice hockey team, was named to the second team. As this year’s team captain, Titus helped the squad to the 2003 NCAA Tournament for the third time in the history of the program. He was a leader on the No.2-ranked Buckeye defense and was named to the 2003 CCHA All-Academic Team. Titus is a two-time CCHA All-Academic Team honorable mention pick, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a five-time OSU Scholar-Athlete. Titus won the CCHA Terry Flanagan Memorial Award as the comeback player of the year after missing the 2000-01 season due to arm surgery following a cancer scare.
