Ohio State Basketball Player Courtney Coleman Named a Second Team Senior CLASS Member – Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State women’s basketball player Courtney Coleman was named a second -team member of the 2003 Senior CLASS Award by a national committee of sportswriters and sportscasters. The Senior CLASS Award – an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School – is given to the outstanding male and female senior NCAA Division I basketball player annually and originated from the award’s Honorary Chairman, CBS sportscaster Dick Enberg. Coleman, the 2003 team captain and OSU’s co-captain last year, led the Buckeyes to a 22-10 record, a perfect 14-0 home mark and a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999.
Coleman, who entered the Ohio State 1,000-point club Feb. 13, 2002, at Illinois, is the best shooter in Ohio State history with a .603 (596-988) average from the field and accumulated a total of 1,540 points, which ranks ninth among Buckeye leaders. She averaged 14.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per outing and was named to both the coaches and media 2003 Second Team All-Big Ten squads this season. A three-time second-team all-conference selection, Coleman was ranked either first or second nationally all year in the category of field-goal percentage. Among Buckeye career leaders, Coleman is ranked fifth with 771 career rebounds and is tied for the 12th spot in Buckeye history with 146 total steals.
The selection of the award was based on a total of three ballots, coming from a national media committee, Division I college basketball coaches and nationwide fan voting via the award’s official web site, www.seniorclassaward.com . This year’s winners were Mississippi State’s LaToya Thomas and Xavier’s David West.
