Women’s golfer Kristen White earned her first tournament win as a Buckeye, shooting a career-low 69 in the third round of the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla. to help lead OSU to the team victory. White totaled a score of 218 for the tournament (77-72-69).
Tami Smith (Sr., Galloway, Ohio/Westland) entered her final Big Ten indoor meet Sunday and captured her third-consecutive conference title in the indoor high jump. Smith, who was crowned Big Ten champion in both the 2001 and 2002 indoor and 2002 outdoor events, defended her title in a jump-off with Stephanie Linz and Jennifer Kulchar of Michigan, who placed second and third, with a leap of 5-9.75.
Dan Taylor (Middlefield, Ohio) continued to turn heads as he exceeded his previous OSU and Big Ten record mark en route to claiming the weight throw crown and post a sweep of the weekend’s throw events. Taylor topped the field in the shot put Saturday with a 20.00m (65-7.50) effort. His mark of 22.35m (73-4.00), which bested his Ohio State and conference record-setting mark of 22.03m set earlier this season to post his third career Big Ten throwing title. For his efforts, Taylor was deemed the Big Ten Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the Championship in a vote by the league’s coaches.
