OSU senior defender Jen Miller received the Defensive Player of the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament award for her efforts in holding each of Ohio State’s opponents through the three-round affair to just 1.00 goal per contest. In addition, Buckeye sophomore forward Lisa Grubb was the recipient of the Offensive MVP in the tournament as she tallied a goal in the victory over Purdue. Both Grubb and Miller went 2-for-2 on penalty kicks in Ohio State’s shoot out victories over Michigan and Purdue in the quarterfinal and semifinal matches.
Chad Brown and Andy Rosenband were selected as the Big Ten Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the Big Ten announced Monday. The honors are the second of the season for both Brown and Rosenband. Rosenband received the honor Sept. 2 and Brown Oct. 7. Brown recorded six saves and smothered several Northwestern scoring opportunities, giving him his eighth shutout of the season and Rosenband scored two goals on four shots in a 2-0 win over the Wildcats Sunday. Brown, now 10-6-1 on the season, leads the conference in shutouts with eight. He has started 16 of 17 games in which he has played, recording 38 saves and allowing only 13 goals for a 0.78 goals-allowed-per game average. Rosenband’s two goals enabled Ohio State to gain a share of second place in the Big Ten and earn a No. 3 seed in the Big Ten tournament this weekend in State College, Pa. Rosenband, who is one of four Buckeyes to start every game this season, leads the team in scoring with 20 points on seven goals and six assists, including four game-winners.
