The Milwaukee Bucks, led by former Ohio State standout Michael Redd and All-Star point guard Gary Payton and are coming to Value City Arena to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday, October 9, 2003. This will be the first time Redd has played in front of his hometown fans since leaving Columbus in 2000.
Payton (20.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 8.4 apg) will go head-to-head with one of the NBA’s most electrifying players, in Minnesota’s Kevin Garnett (23.1 ppg, 13.4 rpg, 5.9 apg). Garnett is one of the favorites to capture the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award. Michael Redd (14.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg) has had a breakout year this season for the Bucks, and has developed into one of the NBA’s most lethal three-point shooters. He will battle former Miami (OH) star Wally Szczerbiak (16.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.8 apg), who has been displaying All-Star potential this year in leading the Timberwolves to an upper echelon standing in the difficult Western Conference.
“We are thrilled to bring the NBA to Columbus and Value City Arena. We have two outstanding teams playing, with All-Star players and coaches, as well as two of the best players the NBA has to offer, in Gary Payton and Kevin Garnett. I know Michael Redd is very excited to come home and play in front of his many fans,” said David Gardiner, the game’s organizer and President of Blue Ridge Sports & Entertainment, Inc.
