Fencers Fare Well At NCAA Midwest Regionals – Ohio State Buckeyes

Results
Columbus, Ohio-Adam Crompton (Fr., Newark, N.J.) and Louise Bond-Williams (So., Gloucestershire, England) placed first in men’s and women’s sabre, respectively, as the Ohio State fencing squad fared well at the NCAA Midwest Regional qualifier at French Field House in Columbus, Ohio. The competition is the last stepping-stone to qualify for the NCAA championships later in the month.
Marguerite Plekhanov (Fr., Montclair, N.J.) finished second in women’s sabre and Jason Rogers (So., Los Angeles, Calif.) finished third while Kitz Siebert (Jr., Lawrence, Kan.) came in fourth. Spencer Jones (Sr., Ft. Leonardwood, Mo.) took third in men’s epee.
The Buckeyes also finished solid in women’s epee. Sherice Gearhart (Fr., San Antonio, Texas) took fourth and Alexandra Shklar fifth (Jr., Jerusalem, Israel) while Talia Viggers (Fr., El Paso, Texas) finished 14th.
In women’s foil Hanna Thompson (So., Rochester, N.Y.) and Metta Thompson (So., Rochester, N.Y.) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while Alexandra Di Cerbo (Fr., New Rochelle, N.Y.) came in 13th. In men’s foil competition, Ohio State took fourth, fifth and sixth. Nathan Wier (Jr., Kennewick, Wash.) took fourth, Matt Carbone (Fr., Potomac, Md.) fifth and Craig Galanter (Jr., El Paso, Texas) sixth. Brian Gross (So., Cleveland, Ohio) took fifth in men’s sabre and Ricardo Jimenez (So., El Paso, Texas) took eighth. Kristin Rill (Fr., Des Plaines, Ill.) rounded out the placing in women’s sabre, finishing sixth. The NCAA will announce the official selections for the NCAA championships Thursday, March 13. A team can qualify a maximum of 12 competitors to the championships. This year’s competition will be held in Colorado Springs, Colo. March 20-23.
