Postgame Quotes
Ohio State head coach John Markell
On the game
“This game had nothing to do with X’s and O’s. I give all the credit to Miami. We had no edge. We have dealt with a little success in the past, but we have never learned to deal with success for a long period of time. Hockey isn’t about shortcuts and too many of our guys took the night off.”
On the five minute power-play in the second
“We couldn’t score on the five-minute penalty and I blame that on our intensity. We didn’t have the edge we had in the last six games. There was only one line working for us tonight. We need consistency in all four lines.”
Buckeye senior goaltender Mike Betz
On the game
“On a frustration level from 1-10, it was an 11. We didn’t prepare well enough and we didn’t have the right attitude. You have to have a championship attitude to win games. We were lackadaisical in the first period. We could have come out and capitalized on a team that might have been a little rusty from taking a week off. We didn’t.”
Miami head coach Enrico Blasi
On the general performance of both teams
“In the first period I thought we played well. By the second period, OSU took it to us and we had to kill their momentum and doing so helped. In the third, both teams had equal chances to score and our seniors executed. We gave a gutsy effort.”
On Ohio State’s performance
“OSU is a good team. It is important to the psyche of our team to be 1-1 by the beginning of the third period against the best team in the league. They did a good job protecting the slot area and Betz made some good saves. We both have a lot of respect for each other and John (Markell) and the rest of the coaching staff always do a great job.”
