Recap| Box Score| Notes
Head Coach Jim O’Brien
On the shooting performance of Furman
“I was very surprised with their shooting performance, but regardless we need to do a better job of guarding beyond the three point line. I thought it was very bazaar that nine of their first 12 baskets were three’s.”
On the performance of junior guard Tony Stockman
“Tony is making some really good progress. It is hard to be so picky, but he is playing much better. When the game is on the line, Tony has no fear and its nice to have a guy like that on the team.”
On the play of junior guard Brandon Fuss-Cheatham
“There is no question that Brandon has the ability to get inside and penetrate and I think he showed that tonight. What I was most impressed with tonight was his performance at the free throw line. Over that last couple of games, Brandon had shot under 50 percent, but tonight he was 4-4.”
Sophomore forward Terence Dials
On the game
“Any win is a good win. The first half was not as good as we would have liked it to be. During halftime, coach told us we needed to pick up the intensity and hold them. We gave up the open 3-point shots. We knew coming into the game we could not give up a lot of points and we let too many shots go in the first half.”
Junior guard Brandon Fuss-Cheatham
On his performance
“I tried to get to the hoop and that’s just my game. In the second half, I tried to get in the lane and that’s what I’m supposed to do.” Junior guard Tony Stockman
On the game
“We got the ball into the paint and got it to the big guys. After we established that, we tried to change the pace a little bit and get the ball out beyond the arc.”
Furman Coach Larry Davis
On the game
“We definitely saw Big Ten basketball tonight. We saw a lot of physical play. I’m proud of how we played tonight. We showed our ability in shooting the ball. I give the coach (Jim O’Brien) and the Buckeyes credit. They did a good job of getting themselves in a position to win tonight.”
On Brandon Fuss-Cheatham
“I thought Fuss-Cheatham was a big difference in the game. I thought our team should have controlled him better. Even though Stockman made the important shots, Fuss-Cheatham was crucial in the game, because he was able to drive into the paint and dish the ball off to someone who could score.”
On having nine possessions and only two points
“With our inexperience we didn’t handle that situation well. We need to learn how to handle success, because the team becomes satisfied and forgets about the hard work that got them there.”
On the pressuring Ohio State
“Our kids came in here ready to fight tonight. All the pressure was on Ohio State because they were expected to win this game. We knew we needed to shoot the ball well in order to win tonight and we did shoot well, we just didn’t come out with the win.”
