Junior guard Brandon Fuss-Cheatham
On his confidence in the game today
“I just made the open shots and made the shots in transition. I definitely felt more confident today. I think I wasn’t jumping as much and that helped. Sometimes coach says I use my legs to much.”
On his confidence in practice throughout the week
“I didn’t feel like my confidence was down throughout the week. I always know in practice that I can only make the open shot. Like I said last week, my game is to score off the four or five shots that I take.”
Junior guard Tony Stockman
On OSU’s ability to pull away from Samford
“I think our team was able to get the defensive stops. We got some fouls called our way and made our free throws. All those things definitely helped us pull away.”
On not starting the last couple games
“This is a learning experience for me. I have some habits that I need to work on. I need to play hard and just not be casual with the ball. Also I have to work on not getting beat defensively, but it is encouraging to play 20 minutes and not turn the ball over.”
Ohio State head coach Jim O’Brien
On pressing Samford
“We talked earlier this season about the possibilities of playing with a full-court press and we didn’t think that we would be capable of doing so because of our size. We wanted to speed them because we did want to sit back in a half-court game, so we thought we needed to pressure them in the back court in order to play zone.”
On Samford
“Samford is not an easy team. They played very well against Purdue and they have a style similar to Northwestern. We knew their style and we knew what we were getting into and I think this was a good game for us.”
On the play of junior guard Tony Stockman
“Tony played very well for us today. He shot the ball well and limited his turnovers. He still has a lot to work on, but he is trying to improve with each game. Tony is a guy who is going to have a huge impact on this season and has the potential to be a very good college basketball player.”
